Peter Larsen is a Danish-born bookbinder who lives and works in Nice since 1986. The craft of a bookbinder is to assemble pages into a book and to interpret the written work into a visual expression on the cover.
The art of a bookbinder is non-figurative art, it is adding an abstract and visual foretaste on a literary work to discover. The craft of a bookbinder is not only to build a book, it is also the guiding of a bibliophile collector to what is underlying and implicit in an acquired literary work.
Today the art of bookbinding has turned into industrial bookbinding based on commun criterias. Feeling close to the artistic part of hand made bookbinding Peter Larsen has developped his craft towards a personal and contemporary expression.
This takes shape in a bar out of cardboard covered with glued strips of colored paper. The rhythm and the color of the stripes tends towards sharing feelings, as if they came from behind the mirror, as if they were letters or notes of music from elsewhere.
As if it were art bookbinding, the work of Peter Larsen is a work on commission, though with the difference that his work is not based on printed pages, but on the personality of a collector, on the exhibition space and/or on a synopsis.
La mOma is the house in the south of France where Peter Larsen works and lives with Valerie Arboireau and their children.
